The trap
Stop chasing the next hot system.
Coach, I'm going to be straight with you. It's easy to get sucked into the idea that wrestling is changing fast, and that your kids need the newest funk series or scramble system to keep up.
I fell into that trap myself early on. The wrestlers loved the flashy new moves. Then I'd look back a month later, or a year later, and my team had barely moved. That's time you never get back.
Every time I lost matches we should have won, it came back to the same thing: my wrestlers hadn't mastered the fundamentals. The programs I studied, the ones that won year after year from youth through high school, all had one thing in common. A system that got hands raised fast, hooked kids on the sport, and laid a foundation that never had to be retaught.
That's what Level One is. The fundamentals that work for beginners and still work at the highest levels, for athletes of any ability.
Why you should listen to meLearned from Gable. Proven in the trenches.
I went through the University of Iowa program under Dan Gable and won an NCAA title. When I started coaching youth and high school, I knew all the best techniques, but I wasn't a good youth coach yet.
It took years of building, tearing down and rebuilding at my dinner table to get a system I could teach to my All-Americans and my brand-new wrestlers in the same room. That system coached 14 consecutive team state titles. Level One is where it starts.

Inside every practiceSix parts. Every one on video.
Each practice runs the same way I ran mine. You get the plan in the Playbook and me teaching every piece of it on screen.
Talk 5 min
The message I gave my team to open practice. Mindset first, every day.
Warm-up 10 min
Stance, motion and base work that builds the position for today's technique.
Quick drills 10 min
Fast, intense reps of skills they've already seen, so they turn into muscle memory.
Technique 35 min
Just enough new moves to learn them for real, taught step by step. No overload.
Live 20 min
The situations that make technique stick. This is where the real magic happens.
Conditioning 10 min
The drills I used to build focus and wrestling shape.
Why coaches run it
One system for your whole program.
1
Every coach on the same page
Your youth coaches, assistants and volunteers all teach the same techniques the same way. Even the dads helping at home. No more kids relearning everything when they move up.
2
Done for you, or make it yours
Run it exactly as written, or use it as a template inside the system you already have. Either way it saves you hours of planning every week.
3
A rank test, like a belt in BJJ
Level One ends with a 75-point skill test. Test your wrestlers, give them honest feedback, and move them up when they pass. Kids work harder when there's a next level to earn.
